Agni Purana is one of the 18 major Puranas containing 15000 verses. It was recited by Lord Agni to Sage Vasishta, and later Sage Vasishta narrated it to Vyasa.
Here are some remedies from Agni Purana.
One who eats only the night on a Sunday occurring in the asterism of Hasta for a year would get everything that one desires. (Transit Moon in Hasta on a Sunday)
One who undertakes to do the vow of eating only in the night on Mondays occurring in the asterism of Chitra seven times would get the gift of happiness. (Transit Moon in Chitra on a Monday)
One who undertakes to do the vow of eating only in the night on a Tuesday occurring in the asterism of Swati seven times would be free from all difficulties. (Transit Moon in Swati on a Tuesday)
One who takes the vow of eating only in the night on Wednesday occurring in the asterism of Vishakha seven times would get rid of afflictions due to planets. (Transit Moon in Vishakha on a Wednesday)
One who eats only in the night on Thursdays in the asterism of Anuradha seven times would destroy all afflictions due to planets. (Transit Moon in Anuradha on a Thursday)
One who eats only in the night on Fridays in the asterism of Jyeshta seven times would destroy all afflictions due to planets. (Transit Moon in Jyeshta on a Friday)
One who eats only in the night on Saturdays in the asterism of Mula seven times would destroy all afflictions due to planets. (Transit Moon in Mula on a Saturday)

No you can fast as you want – you can fast from mobile and tv.
Of course you must be an absolute vegetarian and teetotaller, but you could eat simple normal food in smaller quantities.
Or miss one meal.
What important is that you spend the day spiritually and devoted to inner development.
Read a religious book.
Go to temple.
Do a little meditation if possible.
Visit grandparents or a guru.
Limit food and stop luxuries and enjoyments.
If you can manage it, just 1 vegetarian meal at lunch time or evening and fruits or milk or juices or water or a combination for the other meals is good
I used to take only water and a very very few dried sultanas and nuts at a time,
or a glass of milk and a banana in the evening.
For Nirjala ekadasi absolutely nothing not even a drop of water.
What is important is you keep the promise you make to yourself and to the jeevatma inside you who is witnessing everything.
Try to stay at home because friends can tempt you.
So decide for yourself before starting (perhaps after considering your capacity the day before).
Be gentle with yourself as you start.

There seems to be a typo regarding Mula transits. In the article above it states “Transit Moon in Mula on a Saturday” yet in the dates charted below it says “Mula + Sunday”.

Does that mean that if one fasts every Sunday for one year, starting on a Sunday where the moon transits Hasta, that this is what will happen? There are about 18 major Puranas along with some minor ones, which have been merged in various ideas from different faiths.
