Kalashtami, also known as Maha Kalabhairavashtami, is the most auspicious day dedicated to Lord Kalabhairava, a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Which is on November 4/5th, 2023. Kalabhairava, the God of Time, signifies ‘Kal’ or ‘time,’ and ‘Bhairava’ represents the manifestation of Shiva.
When we squander our time on frivolous pursuits and can’t account for our actions, we essentially disrespect Lord Kalabhairava. Time once lost cannot be regained, and wasting it is akin to an affront to Lord Kalabhairava. To effectively manage and utilize our time for constructive purposes, it is advisable to seek Lord Kalabhairava’s blessings. This practice can also ensure that you are in the right place at the right time when opportunities arise. Lord Kalabhairava can bestow favorable timing and blessings on those who seek them.
The three syllables, ‘Bhai,’ ‘Ra,’ and ‘Va,’ have their own significance. ‘Bhai’ bestows material wealth, ‘Ra’ dissolves negativity and limited consciousness, and ‘Va’ fosters creativity and creation. By chanting these syllables, either eight times a day for a minute each or more than 108 times daily, or by writing the mantra more than 1008 or 10008 times, one can experience excellent results. This sacred sound reminds us that every moment counts and helps us focus on using our time effectively.
“Udyamao bhairavah” from the Shiv Sutras emphasizes that when we invest our best efforts, we need not worry about the outcome. By putting our energy into actions, speech, and thoughts, we become ‘Bhairava’—complete and full. Dissatisfaction and discontent arise from incompleteness. When we devote 100 percent of our energy to any task, regrets disappear, and with them, fear and anxiety. The mind becomes whole, awake, and present. In this state of awakened consciousness, the mind turns inward, finding peace and surrender. A surrendered mind leads to prosperity, strength, peace, cheerfulness, and success.
Rituals: Chant or listen to Kalabhairav Ashtakam 3 times (minimum)
