In Vedic Astrology determining the planetary relationships is of utmost importance to decode the effects of a planet situated in a particular house in our birth chart.

Basics

There are 12 Houses and 12 zodiac signs. Based on our Rising sign (Ascendant or Lagna), each zodiac sign occupies a House in Vedic Astrology. Houses are nothing but 12 aspects of our life. 1st house represents our self, our personality, etc, 2nd house represents our family, sustenance etc, and so on.

Every zodiac sign is ruled by a planet. Aries and Scorpio is ruled by Mars, Taurus and Libra by Venus, Gemini and Virgo by Mercury. Cancer by Moon, Leo by Sun, Sagittarius and Pisces by Jupiter, Capricorn and Aquarius by Saturn. Rahu co rules Aquarius while Ketu co rules Scorpio.

Based on this, now every house based on the sign occupied by the house will have a ruler. For example if you are a Cancer Ascendant your 1st house is Cancer, 2nd house is Leo, 3rd House is Virgo and so on. Now your 2nd House will be ruled by the Sun (Leo) and 3rd House will be ruled by Mercury (Virgo).

The strength of any planet in our birth chart depends on the relationship of the planet and the ruler of the sign it is located in. There are 2 type of friendships – 1)Permanent Friendship which is based on the natural significance of the planets 2)Temporal Friendships which is based on the position of planets in our birth chart.

Rule

Planets located in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th from the sign in which a planet is placed are temporary friends. (When counting we count the sign where the planet is placed as the first sign).

Planets located in the same house, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th are temporary enemies.

Final Planetary Relationships

Now based on the Permanent and Temporary relationships we can analyze the final relationship between planets in our birth chart.

Planets who are Best friends when conjunct or aspected give great results while a connection between planets that are worst enemies or enemies can be a little problematic. The connection of planets as Dasha and Antar Dasha lords are also important when judging the effects of our planetary periods.
